Kwetu Home of Peace: A Sanctuary of Transformation
In the heart of Nairobi, a beacon of hope shines brightly for the city’s most vulnerable children. Kwetu Home of Peace, established in 1993 under the Archdiocese of Nairobi, stands as a testament to the power of compassion and the resilience of the human spirit. Founded by Fr. Michael Meunier, a Missionary of Africa, this charitable institution began as a humble Care and Feeding Centre for street children. Today, it has evolved into a comprehensive residential program dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating street boys back into their families.

From Survival to Revival: The Kwetu Journey

The transformation from a feeding centre to a residential haven in 1995 marked a pivotal shift in Kwetu’s approach. With three intakes annually, the program typically welcomes 20-25 boys, providing not just shelter but a nurturing environment that fosters growth and healing. On February 4th, 2025, Kwetu embarked on one of its most impactful missions yet, rescuing 35 boys from the streets of Nairobi. At the Main House in Ruai, which accommodates up to 120 boys, these children now receive spiritual formation, education, and a chance to heal from the scars of street life.

Empathy in Action: Our Commitment to Every Child

At Kwetu Home of Peace, our mission goes beyond providing basic needs; we strive to instill love, dignity, and hope in each child. Our comprehensive care covers everything from training fees and medication to clothing and psychosocial support. We believe in seeing beyond their past, focusing on unlocking each boy’s unique talent and potential for a productive future. The recent rescue of 35 boys amplifies our commitment to transforming lives, offering them a safe haven where they can rediscover joy, stability, and purpose.

A New Chapter: Reclaiming Lost Childhoods

The streets of Nairobi, fraught with challenges, often become the harsh reality for children orphaned or abandoned due to poverty or disease. Our February 2025 rescue mission not only provided immediate safety for 35 boys but also opened the door to a brighter future. At Kwetu, these boys find more than just shelter—they discover a supportive environment enriched with education, healthcare, and unconditional love.

The Path Forward: Education, Healing, and Self-Sufficiency

Our program’s holistic approach to rehabilitation encompasses spiritual formation, counseling, education, and vocational training. We empower our boys with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive independently, ensuring their successful reintegration into society or placement in foster care. The 35 boys recently rescued are now on a journey of healing and empowerment, gaining the tools they need to break free from the cycle of poverty and build self-sufficient lives.

Beyond the Walls: Impacting the Community and Beyond

The vision of Kwetu Home of Peace extends to the wider community, driven by the belief that children flourish best within families. Our recent rescue mission is a powerful reminder of our goal to transform lives not only within our rehabilitation home but also by reaching out to children in their homes. We are dedicated to creating a future where every child is nurtured within the loving embrace of family, fostering stronger communities and a brighter tomorrow.

Join us in our mission to change lives, support vulnerable children, and help build a society where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
